Sabotage

When I told him I loved him, it was the truth, yet incomplete.

I love you is strung together like pearls on a nude line, unblemished. I don’t want a perfect love, for mine is twisted, brazen and unrepentant. A cracked coffee mug, he tries to sip hot liquid from and not get burned.

I left him high on the wire until he took his eyes off mine. He learned that fateful day, that when he looked everywhere else except me, there’s no place to go but down.
