in debt

You told me that you were coming

but now I’m truly left wondering

if in fact it was you sitting in that restaurant with your wife and child

laughing aloud

behind closed glass-

amassed in sin

that’s how we began

playing in liquid shadows;

a game of chance

the thrill of one more dance.

Inhaling cold dry air

exhaling a puffed white cloud

marching across the street eating up the ground-

Hands pressed against the glass-

I can’t let you go

and she ought to know

that I am.
