What A Day!

My sister and I took our three-year old nephew to the park and it was good to see him smiling and laughing. We took him to the very same park my sister’s and I grew up with only there are significant changes. When we were coming along we had metal slides and the park was constructed in a way that you had to run to get to each attraction which meant you pretty much burned yourself out which resulted in the best sleep a kid could ever get; well that and a good whooping, I digress. These days the park has gone under some significant changes, take a look at the photo below…

This used to be the rest of the park when it was a playground! Everything is too condensed and things need to be spread out. The Merry-Go-Round used to sit here along with other attractions!

So back to the metal slides, when we were kids Summer was the absolute best time to fry your skin and bang up your legs. When I climbed the stairs to the slide, it would be hot as all get out! We’d slide down screaming and laughing “Ah it’s hot!” then climb right back up the stairs to slide down again. Also, these was no padding to protect our skin, just sand.

I believe all these kid friendly attractions turn these kids into punks! We we ran around as kids we got hurt various ways at the park but we picked ourselves back up, dusted ourselves off and went back at it. I remember there used to be a time when parents said this to their kids “Ah you’re alright, get back up, you ain’t hurt!” Now these kids are coddled way too much. Let them fall down for God sake, they’ll learn how to pick themselves up again! We did and we’re still alive today!
